Artist Mentoring Salon – Wednesday 25th November 2015
Venue – Essex Record office
Essex Cultural Diversity Project (ECDP) provides sector and infrastructure development for BAME artists and arts organisations in Essex. Over the past two years, ECDP has led Creative Diversity Hubs Project, a 2-year creative training and development programme that links mainstream organisations with BAME community groups and individuals, to encourage best practice in artistic development, mentoring, and capacity building for diverse artists and arts organisations.
ECDP will lead an informal Salon event aimed to offer tailored advice to emerging diverse artists to enable them to submit strong G4A bids following on from the Creative Diversity Hubs Project commissioned work.
The event will be aimed at emerging/established diverse artists, based in the Essex, Thurrock and Southend region, who have had little or no prior experience of accessing G4A or funding support. We will reach artists through our existing ECDP networks, NPO contacts, Essex-based (and funded Strategic Arts Organisations and other wider networks through the Creative Diversity Hubs Project.
We will offer 5 artists the opportunity to be mentored by an experienced professional from within a Strategic Arts Organisation/NPO and ECC Cultural Development. Artists to be mentored will be chosen through a simple application process and we will focus on artists who have a project idea that they would like to develop. Alongside this, we will invite artists to complete a simple training needs analysis, giving an outline of where they are at, where they would like to be, and what they need to get there. This information will not only enable ECDP to match mentee with mentor, but will enable mentors to offer bespoke support to each individual artist. Each selected artist will have a short, introductory telephone meeting with ECDP prior to their mentoring session, providing information and advice in preparation of their mentoring session.
