Making the Invisible Visible (Edition 1) from artist Shabnam Shabazi can now be accessed online. Commissioned by Essex Cultural Diversity Project in 2014, the work is an online archive of short films exposing the personal stories of multicultural artists across a range of art forms and their journeys of how they got into the arts.
This is an ongoing, growing archive of multicultural artists revisiting their stories of how they got into the arts – digital documents and archives for inspiring future generations. Shabnam invites the participation of fellow multicultural artists from different cities across the UK for future editions of the project.
This website launches Making The Invisible Visible (Edition I), largely focussed on culturally diverse artists based in Essex and the East of England. 21 artists have been interviewed so far. 12 of those artists are situated in Essex and the East or have a relationship to Essex.
The ambition is to continue to develop the project on a geographic basis in different cities, as a kind of mapping and for inclusion in a growing on line archive. Producing bespoke outputs, and continuing to generate new archival material.
